New Ink!
Original Sketch I did in December of a chiff chaff with cherry blossoms.
I decided i wanted a tattoo of a bird and sat and went through a huge list of birdsongs to find one i liked as well as a description of the birds characteristics.
The reason I chose the Chiff Chaff:
+ Loud - can usually hear it before you see it
+ Dominant
+ Sings its own name
+ Can usually only be seen in the spring...
YearDot.co.uk
I’m travelling down to London on Saturday to participate with the channel 4 programme year dot on the Sunday morning. I auditioned for the show in first year and got to the final round, I’m pretty glad I didn’t get on it because I had so much stuff to deal with in the Autumn months of last year that I really wouldn’t have been able to cope.
Basically Sunday is going to be...
Com. Tech. Statement of Intent.
For the Communication Technology brief I am going to focus on portraiture and produce a series of photographs of different people, in different settings eg: interior, exterior, posed, unposed, activity, stationery and use different lighting to highlight or cast shadows on my subject(s). I feel using my DSLR would be the most appropriate camera to use because its quicker to culminate a variety of...
Ooh.
The Body & Technology
An interesting article about the body as an advancing technology.
I have decided to start looking at the body as a technology because it is advancing, eg Darwins Evolutionary Theory. I am going to make a series of screen printed t shirts to represent the body as a technology.

Funderwear!

Send&Receive
I had a really good chat with my taxi driver this morning, and he was telling me about how hyde park used to be a lot bigger, how the hyde park pub used to have a thatched roof and how the statues in hyde park used to be coated in bronze. But unlike York and Harrogate where parts of their heritage has been preserved, Leeds doesn’t seem to give a shit about it’s monuments in the student...

fucking love these. this is the sort of thing i’m going for!
FUNderwear.
Over the past few days I have decided I’d like to take photos of people in their underwear, not in a sexual sense just in a fun playful type way to reveal personality.
I took some photos for Jay a few weeks ago and really liked how they turned out (it was his idea) but aesthetically i really like the whole topless shot aspect.
I’ve found 3 willing models so far so I will be...
Never.
I will never work in a photography studio.
I went to DOUBLETAKE studios in Manchester today, and even though it was fun from one perspective (the clients) actually working in that one space with people all around, asking them to pose etc really really doesn’t interest me!!! The photos were pretty easy to set up using lighting etc and when editing them etc they used photoshop. The way they...

“Francesca was the daughter of my art-history lecturer, the teacher who tutored me through my dissertation. It was on the subject of photography in diaries. She’d seen my dissertation on her father’s coffee table and decided that she wanted to meet me. She was very determined. She got my number from the school and organized a meeting. We took this picture at my house. Her father still has...
Shit Yeah.
I’ll be going on a film day for year dot on Channel 4 on 1st Feb!

Yoink. Cheers Starbucks. This mug is bigger than my face!
Coincidentally I have just started reading this:
This book is basically how starbucks came from two stores on one street and how it boomed business. I am not sure why I started reading it but its pretty damn interesting!
Barack Obama
One hell of an inauguration speech. One hell of a man. I really liked this part.
“To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect,” Obama said. ”To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West — know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you...
Feeling Peaky.
Myself, Andy and Martin went on a road trip to the peak district on Sunday. We drove around for ages and stopped at interesting looking locations to get a few shots.
I took my DSLR and also my fish eye lens to try and achieve some interesting results.
Here are a couple of my favourites:
John Angerson.
This lunchtime I attended the lecture presented by documentary photographer John Angerson. I thoroughly enjoyed his powerpoint presentation and talk as it gave me new hope and inspiration for my own future as a photographer. His non-judgemental and engaging way in which he communicates with his clients be they commercial or charity is very down to earth and straight to the point. He made a point...

Sean Alexander
This is the work of Sean Alexander from Washington.
I absolutely love the contrast between the two characters in this illustration. The composition is spot on. I love how the image is built up using different patterns in pencil to create a textured feel to it too.
Sean co-runs a gallery in Washington below is the link to its website. I love ‘the helm’ logo and also the layout of...
4pm.
on one hand its depressing that it we have such limited hours of daylight at the moment but on the other one there have been some amazing sunsets…
"Screw it, Let's do it!"
I have been reading Richard Branson’s expanded book on business that i purchased from Blackwell’s on a little trip i took to Sheffield. I was advised by my entrepreneuring friend who runs a small IT business and it is a really enjoyable read. It has also got me excited about business - thank you Rich!!! I sat for about three hours and read half the book and i have the other half to go....
lo-fi fun ;)
my new baby. my sexy holga straight from hong kong. well impressed :)
of course i couldn’t just start snapping with this little beast so i cheated. I used my digital slr and just held the fisheye lens up in front of my lens to see what came out. i’m ecstatic about the results! I played about on photoshop with a few of them to blacken the edges if it looked shit but generally the...
